Happy Feature Friday! This week, we are excited to be featuring Sara Torres! Sara is a graphic design major graduating at the end of this spring semester! When she was a kid, Sara wanted to be a detective so she could help people around the world. She ultimately decided that path wasn’t for her, but graphic design gave her a way to help people differently and still be creative, which is always a bonus. Many people have influenced Sara and her work. She has drawn a lot of inspiration from our own graphic designer, Ari Lopez, and Prof. Stass Shpanin, with whom she worked during an internship last semester. Getting that internship was a huge accomplishment for Sara, and it really helped her hone her craft and pushed her to step outside of her comfort zone. Fun fact: Sara loves St. Patrick’s Day it’s her favorite holiday!

Oliver Segreto is a Graphic Design major in this year’s thesis exhibition, ART CAN. Before he was a graphic designer, Oliver wanted to be a Computer Science major and work in IT. However, he realized that an art degree would make him much happier in the long run and valued making art more than writing code and doing extensive math. While Oliver may be a graphic design major, he also has a passion for sculpting! His favorite class was Sculpture Foundations with Prof. Dan Ostrov. The class really opened his eyes to the possibilities of sculpting, and it was also how he got into his first artist residency. The artist residency is one of Oliver’s most significant accomplishments because it really helped him experience more of the art world that wasn’t graphic design. If you want to see some of Oliver’s work, then make sure you come to the ART CAN exhibition in the Stedman Gallery!
